Former France international Louis Saha celebrates his 35th birthday today, and he has used this occasion to announce his retirement, and put the curtain down on his professional football career.
Saha announced his retirement via Twitter:
"I will stop to be call a professional footballer and wish many young talent to enjoy as much as me my football. Love you and thanks again."
He also thanked all the fans, players, staff, managers..
"Want to thank all managers, all staffs, all teammates, all opponents, all fans, for all support and love towards me during my football career..."
He added that he is a proud man and thanked again for the memories and the passion:
"I'm a proud man but without you all I won't be myself now. Thanks for the challenges, thanks for the help, thanks for the memories, thanks for the passion"
That was his announcement on Twitter, saying that the Frenchman put the end on a magnificent career.
Saha started his career in Ligue 1, with Metz in 1997, before moving to Newcastle on-loan in January 1999. In the summer of 2000 he completed a permanent move to the Premier League side of Fulham, where he scored 64 goals in 144 games.

The fantastic games in Fulham earned him a £12.8 million move to Manchester United in January 2004. Saha scored 42 goals in 124 appearances as a United player. That was the prime of his career. He was paired with Ruud Van Nistelrooy an Wayne Rooney up front, and they were a nightmare for the opposition defenders. He immediately made an impact at Manchester United, scoring 7 goals in his first 10 appearances. He also scored on his debut against Southampton. At that time he also got an international call-up for the French national team, and also scored on his debut against Belgium. After that Louis enjoyed being the first choice striker, with Rooney. He played some great matches with United, and had some memorable moments like the one when he scored the winning goal against Benfica in the Champions League, or the one when he scored a magnificent winner past Peter Cech against Chelsea, on one of the decision games for the trophy that season.
The peek of his career was in United, so below you can see his best moments in Manchester

But, not everything was so pink. He was struggling with injuries all the time throughout his career. He easily piked up injuries, and that made a big impact on his career. In 2008 Saha was forced off the field with a hamstring injury, and that made him miss few key matches, which brought to question his United career. Despite his desire to stay, he was not sure about his future at United.

After four and a half years at Old Trafford, Saha then joined Everton for an undisclosed fee, where he scored 35 goals in 115 games, before moving on again to Spurs in January last year where he didn't score a single goal, followed by transfers to Sunderland and Lazio at the end of last season.
Saha also made 20 appearances for France, in which he scored 4 goals.
